God's Special Little Hearts also offers Grief Packages for those families that have recently lost their child to a congenital heart defect. This idea came about from our Secretary, Cydney Conley, as her and her husband lost a son, Garret, to dilated cardiomyopathy in 1998. She has compiled items for the families that were of comfort to her through her grief process.
Each package contains a Bible, the books "For the Tough Times" by Max Lucado and "Gone but Not Lost" by David W. Wiersbe, Bible verses that were given to Cydney by her Pastor after Garret's death and a gift for the parent.
Helping the families that are grieving is just as important as helping families whose child is in the hospital recovering from a heart-related illness or surgery. Sometimes the grieving parents feel as if they are alone in their grief. Our prayer is that each family we send a grief package to will know that God is with them and has not forsaken them although it may seem that way at the time. We also want them to know that there are other families that have lost a child to a CHD and want to help them.
